The BCT made its first land purchase at the end of August 2000. We acquired approximately 20 acres of land from the Gradys off of Sargent Road. See map below.

The property, which will now be assured permanent protection from development, contains a variety of important natural resources:

• an unusual mature oak swamp, which feeds directly into a major tributary to Fort Pond Brook,
• several major vernal pools,
• towering white pines,
• one of Boxborough's best stands of eastern hemlocks.

It is also considered an important ground water recharge area. The land abuts the Town's existing 40 acre Half Moon Meadow Conservation Area. This entire area has been identified by the Sudbury Valley Trustees as an important greenway to protect in their recently published report, Greenways Plan for the SuAsCo Watershed.

We hope and plan that this is the beginning of many more land acquisitions or conservation restricitions. Our preservation task is even more important now with the rapid industrial/commercial development.
